Bassinaud Players are delighted to present Noel Coward’s ‘Blithe Spirit’ to celebrate his 125th birthday!
Blithe Spirit is a comic play, described by the author as “an improbable farce in three acts”. The play concerns the socialite and novelist Charles Condomine, who invites the eccentric medium and clairvoyant Madame Arcati to his house to conduct a séance, hoping to gather material for his next book. The scheme backfires when he is haunted by the ghost of his wilful and temperamental first wife, Elvira, after the séance. Elvira makes continual attempts to disrupt Charles’s marriage to his second wife, Ruth, who cannot see or hear the ghost.
Performances will take place outdoors and audience members are advised to take account of the weather forecast and dress appropriately. The performance will start at 7pm but you are welcome to arrive anytime after 5pm to picnic in our grounds. There is plenty of parking and toilets are available. All events at Bassinaud are free to attend but we will be making a collection at the end to cover our costs, with any surplus going to good causes locally.
This amateur production of “Blithe Spirit” is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals Ltd. on behalf of Samuel French Ltd. www.concordtheatricals.co.uk
